AFRICA’S BIG FIVE SERIES – WHAT THEY TEACH US ABOUT TEAM WORK
It would be beneficial if we as businesses can learn from the animals in the bushveld. Domination, survival of the fittest, submission and adaptation to change are things that make it similar to the day to day running of our businesses. Sadly we still miss out on these lessons.
Every week we will look at these lessons and understand how to integrate it into our own businesses. We also need to understand that sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zones to reassess and observe the changes we need to make.
TEAMWORK
Anyone who has witnessed a lion kill will be blown away by the diverse teamwork and intelligence displayed by the pride. They are masters in every area that a manager depends on. Quality of the team and teamwork is so important. Working as a team the lions can not only take down the kill but also defend their territories, dispossess older lions and secure new females. This is the basis for their survival.
The need to work successfully as a team is highlighted in the kill. The females each have a specific role to play and they do it with vigor and complete focus. Not one will overstep their boundaries or try to overshadow another as they understand that for success they need to work as a team.
In your business are you aware of how teamwork can be optimized to secure long term success and survival. Do they work together to fight the enemy on the outside instead of amongst themselves.
